We just found out we are going to be able to offer at least two full scholarships to the Youth Fiddle/Guitar Camp this year, and maybe one or two partial scholarships. Wow! Here's the drill. Mail or email a video or audio recording of you or your child playing anything they'd like on fiddle or guitar. (Remember, they don't have to already play both instruments to enjoy this camp.) Write a short essay about why you would benefit from FiddleStar Camp and email both things to megan@fiddlestar.com or mail to

Goodlettsville, TN 37072

Deadline for submissions is May 25, 2013. Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 1. Full scholarships will cover tuition, food, and lodging. Travel expenses will still be the responsibility of the camper.
If you have been a scholarship recipient in the past, this does not exclude you from applying again. Will we probably lean toward  giving scholarships to kids who have not yet received them? Yeah, probably. But that does not mean you won't get one. So apply anyway! As in years past, it's not always just the best player who gets the scholarship. We are looking for kids who really have a drive and passion for music and who we think will truly benefit from the camp experience.

Sunday, July 21 - Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Come join us in beautiful Ridgetop, TN for a several days of great fiddling, guitar playing and lots of fun. Every day we will work on fiddle tunes, improve our rhythm and flatpick guitar, sing traditional and contemporary songs, learn to dance to fiddle music, and lots more.

We are excited to kick off this camp at the Twin Lakes Fiddle Contest up in Leitchfield, KY. We're hoping as many campers as possible will meet up there for competing and jamming and good times then head down to the Nashville area to start camp on Sunday.

This is a very special camp. Hosted in a large house on a couple acres just north of Nashville, there are bunks and fiddles and guitars everywhere. Music happens all day and all night and it is truly an immersion in traditional music. It's the best combination of structured classes and spontaneous jamming.

This camp is limited to 15 campers so get your deposit/payment in early before it fills up!

Instructors include...
Megan B. Lynch Chowning
Casey Driessen
Adam Chowning
Caitlin Nicol-Thomas
Caid Jones
Doug Fleener
Maddie Denton

Casey Driessen is already a legend among fiddle players and in 2013, we're proud to have him as a teacher at his very first FiddleStar Camp. Inventive, unique, red-shoed, groovetastic, Casey is not like any other fiddle player you've ever heard. Having toured with Darrell Scott, Tim O'Brien, Bela Fleck, and recently, the Zac Brown Band, Casey's playing has been heard all over the world and has forever changed the sound of the fiddles you hear floating through the trees at every camp and festival you can imagine. It's impossible to underestimate the influence Casey has had on fiddlers of the last couple generations not to mention the current one. At FiddleStar Camp this summer, you and 14 others can be right up next to him and finally ask, "How does he DO that?"

Adam Chowning teaches electric and acoustic guitar and can play any style you want. He's one of the most versatile players around. As an example, he's toured with Bo Bice as his lead electric guitar player and has also won awards as a traditional flatpicker. He can also rock the Texas backup guitar style.

Caitlin Nicol-Thomas is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston and has toured and played with everyone from Lyle Lovett to Lorrie Morgan. She's a great songwriter and a truly kind and generous teacher.

Caid Jones is an award-winning fiddler who is getting his degree in violin performance. He has always been a great fiddler but added guitar to his arsenal recently. He wowed our youth camp last year with his insightful teaching skills. You'll want his advice.

Doug Fleener is fresh from winning the TN State Fiddle Championships (as a follow-up to his former National Junior Championship) and is a staple at FiddleStar Youth Camps. He has the patience to teach any level or age and the passion to get a blazing jam together at a moment's notice.

Maddie Denton is also a former National Junior Fiddle Champion and is one of the most in demand backup guitar players at all the contests and jams. Her specialty is tenor guitar and once you try it, you'll find out how addictive it is!
