Bluegrass Skill Builder Workshops

Here's where you register to join us in the best bluegrass fiddle workshops on the whole internet. You can also purchase previous workshops - just order whatever month you want and I'll send you the links to download and watch and play along and truly improve your bluegrass, old time, western swing,
and country fiddle skills. Check out the video just below to see how much fun we're having!

Monthly BEGINNING Bluegrass Skill Builder Workshops (on Zoom)

FORMAT CHANGE - PLEASE READ: Starting in May 2021, I'll be hosting one 90-120 minute workshop each month where we'll learn kickoffs, solos, instrumentals, fills, and licks of all kinds. I'll break them down and show them to you as we go, no need to prepare anything ahead of time. We'll also start each session with a useful series of warmups and exercises. Each month I'll focus on one instrumental tune AND one useful and fun solo for a classic bluegrass song. During class, you will be muted so you don't have to worry that anyone is going to hear you but you will be able to hear and see me and you can play directly along with me so you know you're getting it right. After the class is over, I'll send out the recording link for the class so you can have it forever to practice with, as well as other supplemental videos and helpful learning tools. When you pay for the workshop, PayPal will send me a notification and I'll email you back to confirm. When we get close to the time of the class you'll get a meeting invite sent to your email. DO not worry if you can't make it to the live class. All sessions will be recorded and if you pay for the class you'll get a recording link and all the follow up materials. Cost is $50 per workshop and includes all videos and handouts. All sessions will be recorded so you can learn and play along on your own schedule if you can't make it to the live class.

Each month's class will include the following elements:
1) Warmups
2) Exercises
3) Basic licks, fills, solos - how and where to play them
4) Ear training to help you learn melodies on the fly
5) Information about the structure of bluegrass tunes and songs
6) Bluegrass critical listening skills
7) Lots and lots of important information about bluegrass/folk jams and how to participate in them successfully, even as a beginner

Make sure you're tuned up and rosined up when class begins. This class will be all about playing - no time like the quarantine to really nail down your bluegrass jam skills - this way you'll be ready to roll when we can all head out to festivals and jams! This class is best for players who are new to fiddling and who have little to no experience jamming and playing with other people. It can also be useful as a jumping off point for classical players who need some guidance before switching over to traditional music jamming. If you are competent on the instrument but not comfortable playing by ear or with other people, this is a perfect place for you. You can start here and then switch over to the more advanced class once you get some idea of how jams work and the fiddle's role in them.

Next Beginner Workshop - Saturday May 8th at 3 P.M. Central (1 P.M. Pacific, 2 P.M. Mountain, 4 P.M. Eastern)
Featuring Soldier's Joy and Amazing Grace
