I’m not gonna lie. I’ve been spreading myself a little thin lately. I’ve been saying yes to too much and no to too little and it’s starting to show. I’m getting forgetful, I’m not being as responsive to the people I love as I’d like to be, I’m falling short when I prefer to be going the extra mile. So for the next few weeks I’m going to be taking a little more time to recharge and I’m not going to be committing to as much work as I have been lately. When you get to do what you love every day of your life, it can often be hard to set boundaries. But I’ll never not help a three year old girl work on her Mississippi Hot Dogs. You can believe that. The Annabelles of the world will always have my full attention. Also, she prefers to call them Cinderella’s Castle and she’s probably right. When I was a senior in high school, I used to go to Holiday Market and grab a boysenberry Yoplait and a Granny Smith apple and drive my Honda Accord to a little spot in the road, somewhere back in the woods, and I’d listen to the Elton John/Bernie Taupin album, “Two Rooms.” It meant everything to me that year. I was much happier alone, so much of the time, but that hour of lunch was often the only opportunity I had to be alone. A few audience members were kind enough to send me some action shots from our Indiana Fiddlers Gathering show at the Fowler Mansion in Indiana. Those are on the left. On the right, we find a picture of a handmade book, given to me after that show by a man named John, who carried himself like something of a wizard. He got the paper from a place called Twinrocker Paper, a legendary artisanal paper provider run by Howie and Kathryn Clark who are also old time music lovers and players. He got the suede from the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon. The pages are blank but I’m not convinced there isn’t invisible ink somewhere, Harry Potter style. Adam Chowning and I think we’re going to make the book a place for campers to leave their thoughts when they come to stay with us. Unless the invisible ink comes to light.
