What a beautiful experience tonight at the Fowler Mansion in Lafayette, IN. We were honored to play a show in support of the Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering and we are so grateful to their board of directors for having us. (Last full weekend in June! Mark your calendars!) Chicago, you just do everything right. @mattbrownsdream helped us put together this fabulous house concert, or rather, loft concert, and we got to see so many dear friends and students (and Nancy and Marty who hosted are our new favorite people) and also there was jamming and a @nhlblackhawks superfan car just outside for no reason except, you know, Chicago. @clawhammerist and I are on the road and we’re trying to enjoy every city as much as possible. We had a super fun show at the @mcconnellartscenter in Columbus, OH thanks to @adamschlenker and all our wonderful friends and students who showed up to support us and then we really got deep into Columbus style with a visit to Dick’s Den with my dear friend @hogue2112. I teach a few dozen lessons every week and they’re all through some kind of online platform like Skype or FaceTime. Teaching is my great passion and I am so grateful that this technology allows me to do the thing I love with and for people all over the world. Unfortunately, it does come with a down side - I have several students I’ve never actually met in real life. Today I got to change that when @drgerrymitchell came through Nashville on a family vacation and we got to have a real life lesson for the very first time! I’m happy to report that he sounds as fantastic as I thought he did. Way to go, Gerry! And here we have a truly boring but truly essential part of the #springfieldremodel. The old A/C unit was a Chrysler. A freakin’ Chrysler, people. The hot water heater was leaking water into the basement faster than it could send it up to the main floor. Check these things off the list and thanks again to J&D Services. It’s Mary Sue’s birthday today and I took this picture of us when I got to her house to pick her up for a celebratory lunch and movie. She couldn’t leave until she finished the final tweaks on an album cover design and got it sent out. She actually put off food in favor of keeping Manhattan Transfer happy. That’s just who she is. I love my bff. She gives her all to everything she does and everyone she loves. Today I honor her and her generous spirit.
