It was a great show folks. Probably better than it would have been back in, say, 91. There was only one super drunk guy in the row ahead of us, Axl sang his ass off, and Slash wore that hat like he owned it. I could not have wanted for more. #gunsnroses #notinthislifetimetour #nashville (at Guns N’ Roses Not in This Lifetime Tour)
You Can be a FiddleStar
I post things about fiddling. And how we can all be better at it.
You don’t even know. Mickey Raphael was the love of my mother’s life when I was growing up. We listened to those Willie Nelson records over and over and she’d stare at the album covers and just swoon during all the harmonica solos. He’s been touring with #chrisstapleton for a while now and I’ve seen him twice in the last few months. Let me tell you, he transcends generations. #dreamy (at Guns N’ Roses Not in This Lifetime at Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN)
Getting ready for @chrisstapletonofficial to go on before @gunsnroses with our friends Steve and Joan - it’s a beautiful night in #nashville for some nostalgia… Raise your hand if your high school basketball team hit the court to #welcometothejungle ✋🏻 (at Guns N’ Roses Not in This Lifetime at Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN)
Well, now we’re getting somewhere. Still a lot left to go but #sirwinstoncup is pretty stoked about the progress. That’s his stoked face. @adamspickoftheday is washing tonight’s dinner dishes in the bathroom sink, still, and I think he is also wearing his stoked face. #sinkgoesinonmonday #remodelingisfun #bostonterrier (at Fiddlestar)
You damn right, I made carnitas and sweet potatoes with spinach and kale in a ripped out kitchen. A couple of tall cardboard boxes and one working stove, no problem. I chopped the sweet potatoes on the side of our giant bathtub and @adamspickoftheday did all the dishes in the bathroom sink. We are basically camping but it’s gonna be gorgeous when it’s all done… Stay tuned! #kitchencamping #carnitas #remodelingisfun (at Fiddlestar)
Last night’s storm kept us up all night. Then Home Depot gave me a white microwave instead of a stainless one and the guys got it installed while I was teaching before I knew it was the wrong one. We need a nap. #bostonterrier #bostonterriercult #flatnosedogsociety #whitemicrowavegottago (that last one is a real hashtag that popped up - I’m not the only one, apparently) (at Fiddlestar)
Happy Independence Day from me, Adam (not pictured), and Duke, who is our handsome dog-in-law. Have a wonderful day! #4thofjuly #whatkindofdogisthat (at Fiddlestar)
And as you may remember from our discussion last week… This is my #happyplace #mandolin #workshoplove #beginnersrock #wildthings (at Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum)
Over the last two days I’ve taught 227 people (literally - that’s how many) how to play the #mandolin and at the beginning of every class I asked if anyone could name a famous mandolin player. One kid named Bill Monroe. One. This kid right here. And after the class he came up to me and told me he takes lessons from the amazing @bethany_olds and that’s how he knew about #billmonroe Thank goodness she’s out there fighting the good fight for #bluegrass music. Carry on. #thefutureissafe (at Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum)
Well, here we are already. Day 30 of the #whole30 and yep, we’re very glad we did it. The plan is to just keep trucking this way. We both feel better, have more consistent energy levels and clearer skin, and our clothes are fitting more comfortably. Maybe we’ll add in a few #paleo treats here and there, and we’re hoping to visit our favorite sushi place once a month or so. (Probably going to bring coconut aminos though.) Personally, I no longer want to eat whole bags of sour gummy worms at one sitting and that is enough of a victory for me. #sirwinstoncup thanks you all for your support. As you can see here, he is a big fan of the program. #wholeyearnotwhole30 #bostonterrier #bostonterriercult (at Fiddlestar)

I am excited to embark on a new chapter of my working life - I recently gave my notice to the Pam Tillis organization and will no longer be touring with her or Lorrie Morgan (on their awesome Grits and Glamour Tour). I must admit, I'm sad to be leaving. It's been an incredible four years and I have learned so much. Thanks to Pam, her amazing husband/manager Matt Spicher, and my bandmates, especially the lovely and talented Mary Sue Englund, with whom I spent more time over the last few years than I did with my husband. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it...
