You Can be a FiddleStar

I post things about fiddling. And how we can all be better at it.

We’ve all been there. At the moment of this photo, he yelled into the guitar, “I found it!” Also, when Patrick Sauber mentioned to him that some of the frets might be in the wrong place which was making it harder to tune, he said, “BUT IT’S RED!!!” #bluegrass #bluegrasscamp #summergrass #mypickfellin #redguitarbestguitar (at Summergrass San Diego)

It’s been a while since I’ve been on a bluegrass festival stage but I couldn’t have been more delighted to play a few sets with @cjnightdrivers at #summergrass this weekend. The musicians were fantastic, the songs were excellent, and the crowds were so gracious. I might even do it again someday. #bluegrass #bluegrassfestival #onceayearwhetherineeditornot (at Summergrass San Diego)

#summergrass Kids Camp is amazing already. We’ve added a bunch of 4th finger slides, droning strings, and gratuitous shuffles to various tunes and rocked a pretty solid kickoff to New River Train. Relax, people. Bluegrass is safe. #fiddle #bluegrass #fiddlecamp #bluegrasscamp #gratuitousshuffles (at Summergrass San Diego Bluegrass Music Camp for Kids)

#leftcoastbestcoast I can’t help it. This is where I’m from and the light looks more familiar here than it ever will anywhere else. I just landed and I had to make a quick detour to the beach on my way to teach and play the Summergrass Festival. #bluegrass #summergrass #goinbacktocali (at San Onofre State Beach)

Scenes from the Nashville airport - Jerrod Walker shows some excited kids what the mandolin looks like and how it sounds. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I’m really glad I got to see this today. #mandolin #nashville #musicforeveryone (at Southwest Airlines at BNA)

Thank you @greendoorgourmet for growing all the beautiful things that are so delicious and perfect for a rainy afternoon. Thank you @edgesnashville for sharpening my fancy @shuncutlery knife so I can chop all the things without sawing off a finger. Thank you to everyone in this rapidly growing, but still incredibly local-centric town who is responsible for making it such an awesome place to live. #nashville #purpleradish #shunknives #buylocal #knifenotlocal (at Fiddlestar)

Well, this is quite an honor. All we’ve ever wanted to do was provide a fun and inspiring environment for people to learn and grow as bluegrass and old-time musicians. And also not have to leave our house. And also to employ some super awesome musician teachers who we admire to help us. Also for everyone to meet #sirwinstoncup and have some fun times in Nashville. And also for people to realize that playing and sharing music with other people is one of the ways we’re going to bridge the divides between us. But that’s all. That’s all we ever wanted to do. Getting nominated for this award is just some confirmation that maybe what we want is also what other people want and we have to admit, that feels pretty great. Thank you to our peers for considering us worthy of this recognition. The Momentum Awards are decided on by industry professionals and we are immensely grateful and honored to be considered. They’re also not voted on by the general public so this is not, I repeat, NOT a “for your consideration” post. We thought you’d appreciate the break… 😉 #bluegrass #oldtime #bluegrasscamp #wevegotmomentum #bridgethedivide #lovepeaceandbluegrass (at Fiddlestar)

Happy #internationalcatday from #bkeats and #gretsch who would stick around to talk but there’s probably a party in their honor over on the other side of the yard and they don’t wanna be late. (at Fiddlestar)

I am excited to embark on a new chapter of my working life - I recently gave my notice to the Pam Tillis organization and will no longer be touring with her or Lorrie Morgan (on their awesome Grits and Glamour Tour). I must admit, I'm sad to be leaving. It's been an incredible four years and I have learned so much. Thanks to Pam, her amazing husband/manager Matt Spicher, and my bandmates, especially the lovely and talented Mary Sue Englund, with whom I spent more time over the last few years than I did with my husband. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it...
