You Can be a FiddleStar

I post things about fiddling. And how we can all be better at it.

After our staff concert at @theviolinshop we decided to drop in to the @stationinn1974 and see what was brewing and boy are we glad we did. The campers got to see the @radioramblers in fine form and grab a few tshirts and stickers to commemorate their experience. #nashville rarely disappoints. #fiddlestaradultbeginnercamp #nashvilleacousticcamps #fiddle #bluegrass (at Station Inn)

Yesterday at 9am they were brand new beginners. Yesterday at 11am they did this. @combsmatt is a wizard of some sort. And camp is full of magic. #fiddlestaradultbeginnercamp #nashvilleacousticcamps #fiddlecamp #fiddle #littlebrownjug (at Fiddlestar)

Yes, your @rockies beat our @sfgiants yesterdaybut it was a great game and we loved our first visit to #coorsfield Our usher was named after a Shakespeare character and there’s a free water bottle refill station. The “first-timers” button machine was broken but the guy at Guest Services gave us each random vintage baseball cards to make up for it - I got Frank White! Our row-mates were super nice and didn’t mock us too much when our pitcher walked in the winning run, which I thought was very restrained and classy. A great day of baseball and another fine baseball park. #sfgiants #coloradorockies #baseball #motherdaughterroadtrip #denver #wewalkedinthewinningrun #blesstheirhearts #waittilnextyear (at Coors Field)

Our last night in #denver on this #motherdaughterroadtrip could not have been any more perfect. We ate this whole branzino and we got to see one of the best people in the whole wide world (who, not for nothin’, came straight off of a plane to join us for dinner even though he’s been away from home for two months) and there was also every other amazing piece of fish you can imagine and kickass Steve the bartender (because if you’re following along, you know by now to always eat at the bar) and everything has just been right in Denver. That’s all. #sushiden #wholefish #bluegrasspride (at Sushi Den)

Admit it. When you saw that we were headed out on another #motherdaughterroadtrip you thought to yourself, oh man, I really hope there’s gonna be a #dancingmur video in my future! Today’s your lucky day. #gogiants #denver #coorsfield #rockiesvsgiants #bustamove (at Coors Field)

We eat a lot of places. #motherdaughterroadtrip is usually about a few very important things - food, baseball, walking, and abstract expressionist art. But mostly food. And last night we had one of our favorite ever restaurant experiences at @mercantiledenver inside the restored @denverunionstation. Connor and Dillon at the bar (we like to eat at the bar, better view, better conversation) were the perfect servers - informative, charming, and attentive but not annoying. The food was elevated but not fussy and the flavors were nothing short of perfect. They had Cutty Sark Prohibition scotch on the menu so you know Mur was happy and the lady sitting next to us turned out to be smart and funny and a great conversationalist. (Not to mention a Mercantile regular, and we can understand why.) Memorable dining is what we live for and last night’s memory is now at the top of our list. #denver #mercantiledenver #wehavearestaurantproblem (at Mercantile dining & provision)

And then she kicked my ass at cornhole. New rule, best museums are the museums with cornhole. MOMA, take note. #motherdaughterroadtrip #denver #cornhole #ididnotletherwin #shesactuallyreallygood (at History Colorado)

We decided to leave the hotel early to walk the long way to dinner. Stumbled on to a Rick Springfield concert a few blocks away so pretty much, this trip is charmed already. (As a friend asked me, “How often does this happen to you?” And the answer is never.) #motherdaughterroadtrip #rickspringfield #jessiesgirl #denver #tasteofcolorado (at A Taste of Colorado)

At the moment I snapped this photo, a teenage kid yelled, “save a bull, ride a cowboy!” And I guess my mom hadn’t heard that one before. #motherdaughterroadtrip #denver #streetart #denverbluebull (at Denver-16th Street Mall)

I am excited to embark on a new chapter of my working life - I recently gave my notice to the Pam Tillis organization and will no longer be touring with her or Lorrie Morgan (on their awesome Grits and Glamour Tour). I must admit, I'm sad to be leaving. It's been an incredible four years and I have learned so much. Thanks to Pam, her amazing husband/manager Matt Spicher, and my bandmates, especially the lovely and talented Mary Sue Englund, with whom I spent more time over the last few years than I did with my husband. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it...
