This is the last of the latest batch of #dancingmur videos. But it’s a doozy. Here, Mur does the bop to Jerry Lee Lewis, smack in the middle of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For a brief moment she expressed a little nervousness about doing it because we were surrounded by hundreds of tourists and she worried that it would be embarrassing. But then she yelled, “I’m 73! Even though I’m beyond desperate for more female representation in museums, everywhere in the world, (you know you can go through entire wings without seeing one identifying female artist? Did you KNOW???) I still adore the work of Mark Rothko and will happily stand next to one in every city I can find one. This one is in the Cleveland Museum of Art and it is stunning. Also, Mur can not get over the fact that this gorgeous museum is free to attend and she would like everyone to know that she now thinks all museums should be free, like libraries. I can not rave enough about our stay at @21chotels in Cincinnati. There are several of these museum hotels throughout the Midwest and South. There is even one right here in Nashville. The restaurants are world class, the rooms are huge and stuffed with every conceivable amenity, and there is a full contemporary art museum in every one. In Cincinnati, the museum featured an exhibit called The Future is Female, with only women artists. After spending a lot of time looking at a lot of art made by a lot of men, this was just what we needed. Provocative, beautiful, moving. And their hotel locations tend to be in cities that need them more than anything. Yesterday, we were lucky enough to spend some time wandering through the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, working on honing our architectural sensibilities. We tend to agree with the already-finely-honed sensibilities of @clawhammerist when he says that Cincinnati is a truly underrated city. Although, he also asked me not to mention it to anyone, because he doesn’t want there to be a land rush. This is a #dancingmur post, but it’s so much more. Read on… Our seats were directly in the sun. It was over 90 degrees with about 60% humidity so after two innings we had to find another place to watch the game. We came upon this great group of fans - several developmentally disabled adults and their care givers - who were sitting just above our seats but under the overhang and in the breeze. Mur made fast friends and we spent most of the rest of the game hanging out and dancing with them in between innings. (And occasionally dodging ushers.) They didn’t even mind that we were Giants fans. Although that part might have been mitigated by the fact that the Reds won 11-4. That’s ok, though. And then, because Ohio is a magical place, and @elcfiddle is very social media savvy, we discovered that our friends Todd and Kerry Varble were also at the Indians game so of course we had to hang out together and drown our sorrows after a tragic loss to the Orioles.
