I am honored to be a part of the services honoring Deputy Brad Jimmerson, brother of my dear friend Bryan Jimmerson. The Jimmersons have welcomed me as family and I am grateful to be able to travel here to East Texas to play a song at Brad’s memorial. Here we have the Special Consensus playing a song on stage at the IBMA Awards Show, just last night. I have a lot of love for this band, as most of you know. My husband even connected Greg with their now longtime and beloved bass player, Dan!) My mom is their booking agent and her work with them has given her such a passion for bluegrass music and the surrounding industry and I’d argue, is one of the reasons that people can’t believe she’s actually old enough to be retired and making this her encore career. She works so hard and loves these guys like her own family. Last night, Special C won IBMA’s Album of the Year, which is so richly deserved for Greg and the boys. It’s a great record and I’m so glad the voting membership is starting to see what many of us have known for so long. When Greg mentioned my mom’s name on stage, I cried. Thank you to all of our campers and instructors who have made it possible for us to live our dream of building community and teaching people to play bluegrass and old time music. I am super excited to be giving a workshop at The Fiddle Suite during World of Bluegrass Week in Raleigh. @mrfiddler1 and @brianosonfun will be hosting this fabulous room at the Marriot (330) all week and there will be bows and fiddle and evaluations and jams and concerts and workshops.
