Surprise Rothko! Took myself to the @fristartmuseum to see the Mexican Modernist exhibit and to revel in the Frida and Diego of it all, which was fabulous and totally worth the hype. But at the last minute I decided to run (hahaha, just kidding, I moseyed) up the stairs to the post-war surrealism exhibit. It didn’t start out strong, I’ll be honest. I don’t love Minotaurs. And I sure as hell didn’t love the David Smith etching “Women in War” and the accompanying description. I can’t explain it. It just sucks and you’re just gonna have to take my word for it or go see it for yourself and see what you think. (Which is what we should all try to do with art, anyway.) But then I turned the corner and found this lovely little Rothko, called “The Syrian Bull.” It actually precipitated the first real discussion and description of Abstract Expressionism so hey, that’s something. #rothko #smashthepatriarchalmuseumdescriptioncards #nashville #museumsinoldpostoffices #abstractexpressionism (at Frist Art Museum)

This #fiddlinarthursmith Tuesday tune (Hollow Poplar, which I keep calling Poplar Hollow but whatever) is probably the most fun one to play, so far. It also took me the most takes to record. I decided to play it a little more up to speed which meant I just kept messing it up. I even have two separate hair styles worth of videos of this tune. I’ll post the outtakes some time. In the meantime, you can start working on it and create all your own mistakes. They’ll be different than mine but they’re all part of the process. In our next #nashvilledobrocamp update, we’d like to share with you how proud we are of one of our dearest friends, camp stalwarts, and generally lovely person @brandonbostic. He was one of our camp instructors this weekend, as well as his regular gig as our recording engineer and as it happened, it was also the weekend he and his label (with our other camp bestie @deanier) charted not one, but two, NUMBER ONE singles on the bluegrass and grassicana charts, respectively. We were gonna buy him a cake but Miss Lela said, “No!
