You Can be a FiddleStar

I post things about fiddling. And how we can all be better at it.

In honor of the opening of @winchestermovie and the last 30 minutes of #tbt I give you this amazing Fiddle Kids and Co. summer tour of ‘83 memory shot in front of the actual Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA. Also, my mom looks extra rad here. #motherdaughterroadtrip #fiddlekids #summertour #stairstonowhere #13ofeverything (at Winchester Mystery House)

Well, we’re a little bit dying over here at #fiddlestar headquarters. Here’s the full page article about our FiddleStar Adult Beginner Camp from the March issue of Strings Magazine and were just beside ourselves. We’re so proud of this camp and what it represents and they even chose to include the photo of Kathy Compton, whose idea it was to start the thing in the first place. Thanks to Megan Westberg for the fabulous write up and for understanding our goals and dreams for beginning fiddlers. Oh, and registration for 2018 Adult Beginner Camp opens May 1. 😉 This year’s instructors include me, @nateleellc and @bronwynkeithhynes And oh, part two, get you a subscription to @stringsmagazine because it is awesome all the time. #fiddle #fiddlecamp #youcanbeafiddlestar #itsnevertoolate (at Fiddlestar)

A rainy, beautiful weekend of mandolin love. This photo is missing a few people because they had to travel early or because they only taught on Saturday (looking at you, awesome @ashbyfrank) but you can still get a general idea of how fabulous they are. #nashvillemandolincamp #nashvilleacousticcamps #mandolin #bluegrass #swing #oldtime (at Fiddlestar)

We interrupt the usual #nashvillemandolincamp postings to bring you this puzzle. Any ideas about what we’re getting ready to announce?!? #nashvilleacousticcamps #june #comingsoon (at Fiddlestar)

One of the main reasons we even started #nashvilleacousticcamps is so we could just bring all the people we love into our lives on a regular basis and just never have to leave the house. #nashvillemandolincamp #leohickman #mandolin #bluegrass #swing #oldtime (at Fiddlestar)

An excerpt from my latest custom lesson on the haunting old waltz “Germaine” (which I first recorded on my 2003 album “Lovely Weather We’re Having”). In this custom video lesson I talk about half steps and strange intervals and gratuitous sliding into 3rd position. Also, heads up, once you learn it, it should go way faster. Cross marketing alert: I’m happily wearing my new turquoise ring from @sweetfarmjewelry and you should go check out her latest collection. #fiddle #fiddlelessons #germaine #waltz #fiddlestar (at Fiddlestar)

This is one of my new favorite pictures of myself. I didn’t mean to take it. I thought I was clicking start on a lesson video. #sunriseonaguineafarm #fiddle #rearfacingcameraproblems (at Fiddlestar)

I am excited to embark on a new chapter of my working life - I recently gave my notice to the Pam Tillis organization and will no longer be touring with her or Lorrie Morgan (on their awesome Grits and Glamour Tour). I must admit, I'm sad to be leaving. It's been an incredible four years and I have learned so much. Thanks to Pam, her amazing husband/manager Matt Spicher, and my bandmates, especially the lovely and talented Mary Sue Englund, with whom I spent more time over the last few years than I did with my husband. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it...
