You Can be a FiddleStar

I post things about fiddling. And how we can all be better at it.

Honor Flight - a gift to our veterans

This is not fiddle related but I’d like to share. My grandfather, Harley Sattler, (a WWII veteran) has been chosen to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials there. This will be an incredible experience for him and the other veterans chosen. Honor Flight is a organization of which I was not even aware before he was chosen. But in reading more about them, I am so glad and proud they exist. They pay all the expenses for the veterans to fly to DC and tour the memorials, even for those who are now disabled or have other health challenges. If you’re looking for a way to give thanks to veterans, this is a great organization. Also, they are planning a real mail call for the vets while they’re in DC. You can send a card or letter to the traveling vets to say thanks for their service and they will receive and open them there. I’m going to send one to my Papa Harley! If you’d like to send a card, you can send it care of

Debbie Johnson
17669 Warwick Place
Anderson, CA 96007

The next Honor Flight takes place on April 19th so you have time to get something to her before that. If you’d like to donate to Honor Flight, their website is http://www.honorflightnorcal.org/

Thanks for reading and thanks to our veterans.

I am excited to embark on a new chapter of my working life - I recently gave my notice to the Pam Tillis organization and will no longer be touring with her or Lorrie Morgan (on their awesome Grits and Glamour Tour). I must admit, I'm sad to be leaving. It's been an incredible four years and I have learned so much. Thanks to Pam, her amazing husband/manager Matt Spicher, and my bandmates, especially the lovely and talented Mary Sue Englund, with whom I spent more time over the last few years than I did with my husband. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it...
