Travel day - covered a lot of ground. I drove from Bend to PDX so I allowed some extra time to stop at the Erickson Aircraft Collection (which wasn’t open yet but I wandered around outside) and then a quick drop in to the Grotto, my favorite place in Portland. I came close to missing my flight but it was worth it and I refuse to travel for work and not still see cool stuff so these are the chances we take.

And it’s a wrap! My very first filming session for fiddlevideo.com has come to a close and I’m proud and exhausted in equal measure. Texas style, contest style, and lots and lots of bluegrass, that’s been the focus of the week. I couldn’t have done it without my @daddarioorchestral strings and my friend Casey Willis’ incredible production and engineering skills. And also the Vietnamese food from last night.
Please note that I only wore @fluevog shoes in the videos. Also please take note of the shot of my studio essentials. Rag to wipe down rosin, legal pad for notes and ideas, rosin, @hydroflask, packet of Tylenol, and lip gloss.

Day one of Fiddle Video is in the books. I’m catching my stride and feeling like I’ve found my voice in this format and I’m super happy with how things are going. Casey (pictured in slide 2) also seems to be happy with how I’m doing because he bought me this bowl of chorizo and barbacoa. Tomorrow it’s on to more tunes and songs and explaining things and telling a few jokes. You know me.

On the left is my across the street neighbor. On the right is my next door neighbor. Somebody on my street bought a chainsaw and watched some YouTube videos, is all I can figure. I sure wish they’d stop by our place, although I don’t think I want the slightly inappropriate mushroom elf guy.

Spent some time organizing all my jewelry the other day and happened upon my Weiser necklaces. (That’s just shorthand for the National Old Time Fiddlers Contest.) Used to be, in the 80s, that everyone who entered one of the kids’ divisions got one of these little charm necklaces. My first one was from 1981 - it’s on the left and I turned it so you could see the logo on the front. The rest I turned the back out so you could see the years. In 1981 and 1982 I entered the Jr Jr Division because there was no Small Fry division. In 1983 they added a Small Fry division and as an 8 year old I was able to get in just under the wire. It went pretty well. 😊 Does anyone else have any of these? I’m so glad @dancing_mur made me save them.
